Starting Out
My father always played in bands and dragged me along as a child into my early teens. Energetic Church Services were weekly mini-concerts to me. I wanted to be able to play and express myself through music and not just rely on the sounds of others (as wonderful as they are). Releasing the sounds in my own mind as they were quickly forming.

I almost was not a part of this band because I was nervous at the try outs with Dawn and broke my E string and couldn't read music.

Luckily, I had jammed for 90 minutes a week prior with Garth & Jason who vouched for me. That jam session was incredible! A pure stream of consciousness from one piece into another. It sounded like a soundtrack for our gritty, dark, urban landscape.
I lost the tape a few days later in a cab and called Dawn's sister Shelia and actually cried to her at the payphone on St. Marks.

This was our "album, cd, ep" of improv tracks recorded & mixed by Asha all in his basement apartment a few blocks from my 340 Bedford Ave, Brooklyn residence at the time.
We recorded our best stuff at night back then. There were no long discussions about how a track was to be made. Playing was our main conversation, I'd either start off w

We recorded our best stuff at night back then. There were no long discussions about how a track was to be made. Playing was our main conversation, I'd either start off with a bass line or he would start with a synth beat then we'd build up the track either in tempo or with adding more sounds.
This was an atmospheric band. I wanted to expand my playing more. Turn my bass into a multi-sound generating device than just play familiar progressions.
Asha was well schooled in music theory and engineering, but was the most humble and friendliest person that I'd met. It was the perfect combination of my raw emotional bass playing, with his recording knowledge and dynamic, rhythmic guitar playing.
