My friend and fellow Artist contemporary John Wire, invited me to display in what was at the time Base Gallery's Annual Atrium Show. I was gifted by John several large rolls of colored paper. Originally, this was to be another DKNG show since I was busy creating and promoting that collaboration project.
Nate came down with a bad case of the flu and was unable to physically participate. I had to think on my feet and take another approach.
The rules are no folds or creases. The paper is held up by thumb tacks and proportional gravity created from the paper positioning.
The submerged visual effect comes from the ribbons, waves and splashes of color against large areas of wall space or within a confined space.
Creating the "Vertical Pool" where the participants within the space are standing within a pool of flowing shapes and color.
The Four Phases
1) Pink & Bleach Large Sheets of Pink construction paper
2) Multi-colored sheets of paper
3) Rolls of Pink Kraft Butcher Paper stretched across the room, framing the other works in the exhibition.
4) Self-contained small room along with Jame P.s painted tubes suspended by wire.
There were a total of 8 different exhibitions in 6 locations in 2 different cities from 2001 until 2010.
Explosion at the Greenwich was the conclusion to this series. I started to become concerned about the paper waste from each of these shows and I stopped the practice. I had thought about shredding it up and turning the pulp into many multi colored sculptures, but that idea never fully manifested itself over time.

Looks small. What shall I do? I like the low ceilings. Both doors have to remain usable and one is to the women's bathroom. How do I create a wall that hides the doors, yet keeps them usable?
How do I keep the paper attached for a month only using thumb tacks and pressure? How do I keep the paper from catching fire next to the lights hours on end every day for a month?
As always...no folds or creases.
Keep the waves and walls of color...
The Vertical Pool continues...
