This is part of the Second Phase of the Paper Sculpture Installations. This was made with the remaining paper that I used for the Base Gallery Exhibition. Instead of painting the walls in my studio, I used the paper to color my walls and create a large image though the effect I was going for was looking at a painting in Macro view.
The rules are no folds or creases. The paper is held up by thumb tacks and proportional gravity created from the paper positioning.
The submerged visual effect comes from the ribbons, waves and splashes of color against large areas of wall space or within a confined space.
Creating the "Vertical Pool" where the participants within the space are standing within a pool of flowing shapes and color.
The Four Phases
1)Pink & Bleach Large Sheets of Pink construction paper
2)Multi-colored sheets of paper
3) Roll of thick dark pink paper stretched across the room along framing the other works in the exhibition.
4)Self-contained small room along with Jame P.s painted tubes suspended by wire.
There were a total of 8 different exhibitions in 6 locations in 2 different cities from 2001 until 2010.
Explosion at the Greenwich was the conclusion to this series. I started to become concerned about the paper waste from each of these shows and I stopped the practice. I had thought about shredding it up and turning the pulp into many multi colored sculptures, but that idea never fully manifested itself over time.
